October Newsletter

Hello parents, I want to say thank you so much to those who donated a book(s) to our classroom from the Book Fair!

We are having a great start to the 2011-2012  year.  The first month has given your child the opportunity to become familiar with his/her surroundings and classmates. The children have  been working on reading and math concepts and rotating specials groups.

Fall Festival -October 29th

Please see look in your child’s backpack for additional information regarding the Fall Festival.  Our homeroom mom may be contacting you about helping with the Fall Festival.

If you have not signed up to help with a party, please do so.  Each parent needs to sign up for at least one party.  Please send a note or email and let me know which party you

would like to help with this year.  We have a Christmas, Valentine’s, Easter, and End of the Year party.  Thanks!

Children’s Change Challenge

Challenge began Friday, September 30th. The class with the highest amount of donations will get to put a pie in Mr. Exum’s face at the Fall Festival.  The children are really excited about this.  I will also give some in class incentives to those who donate.

Handwriting:

We are working on proper pencil grip, letter formation and number formation.  We are also continuing to practice names, alphabet and numbers 1-10.

Reading:

Based on your child’s literacy level, I will be sending home appropriate skill level reading sometime this month. (If I already sent home alphabet flashcards to you, please help your child to master those at this time.) I ask that you review/read with your child each night.   Please continue to practice the sight words that I email you each week.  Your child should be memorizing 5 sight words each week.  These are words that are commonly found in print and do not always follow the phonetic rule. The children will learn by memorizing (sight).  This will help to build his/her reading fluency.  Please read with your child for at least 20 minutes each night.   The list of sight words for each week this month are below.  I will also continue to email them to you each week as well.
