Exit Expectations for Fourth Grade Reading

 

Students who are performing at grade level should exhibit the following expectations:

Comprehend literally on a fourth grade reading level

Understand the literary elements of a book such as characterization, setting,

            conflict/resolution, plot, and theme

Understand and follow written and oral directions

Find the main idea of a reading selection

Sequence

Predict Outcomes

Draw conclusions

Infer

Understand cause and effect

Recognize vocabulary meanings using context clues

Understand cause and effect

Interpret graphic aids

Recognize and use figurative language

Distinguish between similes, metaphors, and personifications

Write a short summary about a selection using proper grammar, capitalization,

            punctuation, and spelling

Create and present written, oral, and PowerPoint presentations on selected genre

 

 

 

 

 

Exit Expectations for Fourth Grade Language Arts

 

Students who are performing at grade level should exhibit the following:

Recognize and produce the four types of sentences:  declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory

Use nouns, pronouns, verbs, verb tenses, adjectives, and adverbs properly

Understand suffixes and prefixes

Use periods, question marks, exclamation points, commas, colons, apostrophes, and

direct quotations properly

Use contractions properly

Write common and proper nouns correctly

Identify and write subjects/predicates of complete, simple, and compound sentences

Consult reference resources such as the dictionary, thesaurus, encyclopedia, and Internet

Write a four paragraph essay using proper grammar, capitalization, punctuation, and

            spelling

Write a friendly letter
