As your child ENTERS 4th grade he/she should be able to do the following:
Math:
· Regroup in addition and subtraction · Understand basic place value through the thousands · Tell time · Multiplication facts 0-12 · Choose the appropriate operation for solving simple word problems
Social Studies:
· Know city, state country and continent in which they live · Know the states and their capitals · Know his/her complete mailing address and telephone number · Know Tennessee’s state symbols and some state history.
As your child EXITS 4th grade he/she should be able to do the following if he/she is working on grade level:
Math:
· Have mastered times tables 1 to 12
· Have mastered multiplication 3 digits x 2 digits
· Have mastered division 3 digit by 1 digit
· Understand place value through millions and to the right of the decimal to the hundredth
· Estimate and recognize reasonable answers
· Identify fractions, fractional parts, equivalent fractions, comparing
· Identify and use metric/standard units of measurement
· Round to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand of a 3- to 4-digit number
· Read and understand one-step word problems
· Be familiar with common geometry vocabulary and shapes
· Be able to read different types of graphs such as bar graphs and pictographs
Social Studies:
· Have a knowledge of US History from early European explorers to the Revolutionary War
· Can use map keys to interpret a variety of maps
· Mastered States and Capitals and their locations
· Can identify and understand the three branches of the US government
Social Behavior:
· Can demonstrate basic organizational skills
· Can complete and turn in assignments on time
· Can demonstrate appropriate classroom behavior
· Can demonstrate peer to peer interaction
As your child EXITS 5th grade Math he/she should be able to do the following if he/she is working on grade level:
Math:
· Have mastered multiplication 3 digits x 3 digits
· Have mastered division 3 digit by 2 digit
· Understand place value through trillions and to the right of the decimal to the thousandths
· Estimate and recognize reasonable answers
· Add, subtract, multiply, divide and compare fractions, mixed number and decimals
· Identify and use metric/standard units of measurement
· Rounding numbers to the Trillions
· Read and understand multi-step word problems
· Understand percents and ratios
· Solve one variable equations
