SCOPE AND SEQUENCE

Skills for K4:

1.  Basic greetings:  Good morning, How are you?, I'm fine, I'm so, so, I'm feeling bad
2.  Basic likes/dislikes:  Do you like...?, Yes, I like, No, I don't like-combine this with vocabulary learned
3.  Parts of the Body
4.  Colors
5.  Domestic and wild animals
6.  Songs (see my homepage for songs on:  greetings, parts of the body, and colors)
7.  Activities:  We use a lot of TPR (Total Physical Response) activities in class.  Students color on a sheet of paper the colors they hear being called out, they also select the animals that are being called out from a worksheet, they can also do simple greetings by pairing up with a partner and using masks and/or puppets.
8.  We use a CD with several Spanish songs.  We dance to these songs or we listen to it while we color.  The use of pictures and audiovisual aids is crucial at this age.
9.  Hands-On-Learning-We use puzzles with animals and/or parts of the body to practice motor skills and vocabulary together.
10.  Games-We play games like:  "the radio game"-students are the volume of a radio and they say the vocabulary words at different volumes.  They physically demonstrate how low or high the volume of the radio is by standing up or being on the floor as they say the Spanish words in different volumes.  We play "Heads up, seven up"-students who are chosen have to answer a question in Spanish.
11.  Videos-We watch "Dora" videos at this age level.  This helps me introduce some CULTURE, like the birthday celebration of the "Quinceanera"-Dora's cousing turns fifteen in one of the videos.  This is a major event in the Hispanic culture.

***Same as K4, just a lot more speaking.
***Students in K5 will begin using simple textbook that also comes with a CD to practice listening skills.  These books stay in the Spanish classroom.

***CULTURE:  We look at a map and we look at pictures of children who live in other countries and who speak Spanish.
