RELATED ARTS
At HVCS, we're thrilled to offer a dynamic range of related arts classes alongside our core curriculum! These exciting courses are designed to inspire creativity, spark critical thinking, and promote collaboration among our students. With these classes, students have fantastic opportunities for growth beyond traditional academics. Our special classes take place once a week, adding an extra dose fun to their learning experience!
Art & Art History
Our art class offers students the opportunity to explore various art forms through lessons that encompass a broad array of topics and techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media in a setting that is suitable for their age. The goal is to nurture creativity, inspire imagination and promote experimentation. Additionally, the art history segment will introduce students to different artists and their unique styles or focuses.
Library
Our students eagerly anticipate their weekly visits to the library. This time is dedicated to nurturing a love of reading and enhancing literacy and research skills. Our librarian works closely with classroom teachers to support ongoing lessons and Accelerated Reader objectives. She takes pleasure in getting to know each student, enabling her to provide personalized book recommendations. Among the most popular library events are the annual Scholastic Book Fair and the year-end Book Swap.
Music
Our music program delivers a solid foundation in music education, encompassing singing, rhythm, and instrumental instruction. It is thoughtfully crafted to improve musical skills, foster appreciation, and instill a lasting love for song and movement. Students have multiple performance opportunities throughout the year.
Physical Education
Our P.E. curriculum is tailored to the developmental stages of elementary school children, aiming to promote lifelong health and fitness through fun, engaging, and skill-building activities. P.E. is a great platform for developing social-emotional skills like teamwork, communication, cooperation and self-regulation. This class is in addition to daily recess after lunch allowing students to enjoy their free play time.
Spanish
Get ready for an exciting journey with our Spanish program! This vibrant cultural learning experience is designed to ignite young learners' passion for Spanish, laying the perfect foundation for their future language studies. Each month, students dive into the rich heritage of a different Spanish speaking country through fun interactive games, captivating stories, lively traditions, and engaging projects.
STEM
Get ready for an exciting adventure in learning! Our program combines the thrilling worlds of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into fun, hands-on activities for our second through fourth graders. We aim to ignite a love for STEM and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in our young learners. At the start of the year, students will choose one of our amazing options and rotate each quarter for an unforgettable experience!
