Welcome to the Elementary School at Hickory Valley Christian School. Our elementary program encourages intellectual curiosity, invites collaboration, cultivates opportunities for service and a love for others; simultaneously, our rigorous academic curriculum prepares students for Chattanooga's top prep schools.

With one of the lowest student-teacher ratios in the Chattanooga area, HVCS students receive a level of personal attention that's unmatched anywhere in our city. Our children are known and nurtured not just by their primary teachers but by everyone they encounter—from our food service coordinator to our head of school. HVCS students graduate with an awareness of the world around them and the beginning skills to successfully navigate in that world.
Kindergarten
Welcome to a world where children are scientists, authors, creators, and explorers! Kindergarten at Hickory Valley Christian School is a year full of milestones, and we do our best to make it fun as well as educational. With a combination of hands-on learning opportunities and one-on-one instruction from teachers, the HVCS kindergarten experience ensures that your child gains a strong academic foundation and a genuine love for school.
1st Grade
This year is a fun and exciting year for your child. They will mature, grow academically and socially and begin to learn how to see the world with an inquiring mind. They will become writers, readers, scientist, explorers, athletes, musicians, poets, actors, and so much more as we discover where their interests lie, and strive to inspire the whole child to be a life-long learner.
2nd Grade
3rd Grade
Welcome to third grade! This year will be an exciting developmental year for your child academically, socially, and emotionally. We will study many exciting topics in reading and math! Students will become more independent and work on growing as readers. We will do many science experiments and STEM activities. We will also work on technology and incorporating computer skills into our daily lessons. Most importantly, students will grow in their relationship with Christ and with each other. In this classroom, we are a family! I cannot wait for a great year at HVCS!
4th Grade
Welcome to fabulous fourth grade at Hickory Valley Christian School! Fourth is a special age where students seemingly have one foot in the pre-teen world and the other foot still in the world of childhood. You will likely see many changes in their social dynamics, namely the increasing importance of their friends and peer groups, but don't worry -- at this age, family is still the most important! You will be amazed at how they mature emotionally and academically!
5th Grade
Welcome to fifth grade! This is your final year at HVCS and it will be fabulous. In addition to writing a research paper and learning more about geometry, we will work on increasing each student’s level of responsibility and independence. But it’s not all work—we have fun too! We have great field trips like a week in Tybee Island, an afternoon at the Chickamauga Battlefield and a morning at the Memorial Auditorium to see a play. We also have many treasured fifth grade traditions such as tie-dying t-shirts, the flag ceremony and the Alligood essay. We look forward to sharing this fantastic year with you!
